Extension lecture on STI/ RTI services

Aligarh : Dr Abhishek Royal, Consultant at the World Health Organisation with a wide experience in public health emergencies discussed how the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) V is providing a universal, comprehensive and standardized quality services to patients suffering with Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and Reproductive Tract Infections (RTIs) at all health care facilities to different population groups including the Healthcare Resource Group (HRG) and other vulnerable groups.

He was delivering an extension lecture of the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) on ‘STI/ RTI services in National AIDS and STD Control Programme (NACP) V’.

Dr Abhishek discussed different operational and implementation challenges and delved into syndromic approach, task shifting, intersectoral coordination supply chain and other facets of the STI/ RTI programme.

“The lecture was in accordance with the series of changes implemented in the postgraduate curriculum and in line with the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines”, said Prof Saira Mehnaz (Chairperson, Department of Community Medicine).

Meanwhile doctors of the Department of Community Medicine also provided 100 students of Shri Mathura Prasad Higher Secondary Education School, Kasimpur Road with free medical services and referred the students in need of specialised treatments to JNMC in a special ‘Health Camp’ of the Rural Health Training Centre.

Prof Saira Mehnaz pointed out: “Outreach programmes such as these health camps are regularly conducted at Rural and Urban Development Centres of JNMC to make sure people are getting healthcare at the right time, and seeing the doctor early enough before a small health problem turns serious”.

Dr Uzma Eram (Member-in-Charge, Rural Health Training Centre, JNMC) with resident doctors provided health care services at the camp.
