Extension lecture on ‘The Quranic Perspective on Wildlife’
Aligarh: Prof Hafiz Shaeque Yahya, former Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences and Chairman, Department of Wildlife Sciences at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) presented ecological ethics of Islam in the extension lecture on ‘The Quranic Perspective on Wildlife’ at the K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies on November 5.
“Islamic teaching emphasises the specific ability of humans to act with understanding, compared to the rest of the creation. Such pre-eminence comes with practical obligations to treat animals with kindness”, he said.
Prof Yahya shed light on the concept of the preservation of animal life in the Quran and stressed that the Holy Quran stands for the sanctity of life and ecological balance.
In the welcome address, Prof Abdur Raheem Kidwai (Honorary Director, K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies) urged the students of the Quranic Centre to carry out work on the Quran in the context of present times.
Syed Mohamad Mubasshir conducted the programme and Adeeba Taj extended the vote of thanks.
