Extension Lecture organised by the Department of Medicine

 

Aligarh : “The new SGLT-2 drugs are unique in the sense that they reduce blood sugar by throwing sugar out of the body in urine. These drugs not only control blood sugar but reduce weight and blood pressure also”, said Dr Rifat Parvez Naghmi, a renowned name in Internal Medicine and Diplomat of American National Board, based in USA, while delivering an online extension lecture on “SGLT-2 Inhibitors-Current Concepts”. The programme was organised by the Department of Medicine, JN Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

Delineating various approaches of treating diabetes, Dr Naghmi discussed role of the new upcoming SGLT2 drugs, their side effects and limitations. He said these drugs are now available in India which is good for patients.

Prof Anjum Mirza Chughtai, Chairman, Department of Medicine said, the lecture was highly appreciated as it was very informative and dealt with the latest developments in the field of Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus Management with Oral Hypoglycaemia Agents (OHA), especially SGLT-2 Transporter Inhibitors.

Dr. Hamid Ashraf, Director, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Diabetes & Endocrinology, JNMC took part in the discussion after the lecture. He shared various advances that have taken place in the related field.

Earlier Prof Anjum Mirza Chughtai introduced the invited speaker. He said Dr Rifat Naghmi is a renowned name in Internal Medicine with wide experience in several countries for the last 30 years. He runs a Medical Centre in Garland, Texas (USA), and has authored several books on Medicine.

Prof Shahzad Faizul Haque proposed the vote of thanks.

The lecture was attended by all the Consultants and Residents of the Department of Medicine.

Prof Chughtai said the Department of Medicine will be organising a series of Extension Lectures in the coming months by renowned International/National faculties on the ever expanding field of Clinical Medicine.
