Extension lecture, visit to Mathura Oil Refinery organized
ALIGARH: The students and faculty members of the Department of Business Administration (DBA), Aligarh Muslim University benefited from the extension lecture-cum-discussion on “Union Budget 2023: Issues, Concerns and Roadmap Ahead” by Dr. Manoranjan Sharma, Chief Economist, Infomerics Valuation and Rating Private Limited, who talked about the efficiency of expenditure and the element of continuity.
Referring to the Great Depression (1929) and the global recession (2008) theories, Dr. Singh mapped the journey of the Union Budget and its relevance and highlighted the government’s focus areas in the current year’s budget and its impact on various sectors, including MSMEs, agriculture, healthcare, banking and energy. He underlined the impact of climate change, carbon emission, and international exigencies like that of the Russia-Ukraine war, which drives the focus of the governments and causes shifts in their policies for renewable energy and a sustainable world.
Welcoming the guests, the Chairperson, Prof Jamal A Farooquie stressed the need for analyzing the Union budget in threadbare.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Javaid Akhter briefly discussed capital expenditure, fiscal revenue and other highlights of the budget.
Dr. Parvaiz Talib discussed the broad concerns of the budget and emphasized the importance of leadership and strategy in steering the growth of the nation through budgetary decisions.
Prof. Saboohi Nasim extended a vote of thanks. The MBA final year student, Mr. Sayanthan Majumdar conducted the programme, organized by the Co-curricular Committee of the department.
Meanwhile, an industrial visit to the Indian Oil Refinery (IOR), Mathura was organized for the final year MBA students under the stewardship of faculty members, Dr. Asif Akhtar and Dr. Ahmad Faraz Khan. Mr. Ram Raj, Senior Manager, Learning and Development. IOR welcomed the group of 20 students.
Dr. M K Ray, Deputy General Manager, Learning and Development, IOR urged the students to acquire working knowledge about the refinery operations.
Conducting a technical session, Mr. A R Mishra, Deputy General Manager, Technical Services, IOR provided details about the working of the entire operations right from the procurement of crude oil from various national and international sources to extracting various products like petrol (naphtha), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), diesel, bitumen, etc. He also engaged students in an interactive Question-Answer session.
During the tour of the refinery, students were given knowledge of key plants and processes of the refinery, like Fractioning Columns, Hydrogen Tanks, Furnaces, and Pipelines (Cooling and Emergency).
