Extention Lecture on topics related to environmental awarenss held

 

Aligarh : In an effort to promote environmental awareness and tackle the urgent problem of single-use plastic waste, the Department of Community Medicine at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, arranged an extension lecture. Entitled “Environmental consciousness, a key to sustainability” and “Single-use plastic waste: A curse for the environment,” the lecture sought to increase understanding of the effects of pollution on everyday life. Dr. Arshad Husain, Associate Professor in Civil Engineering at the University Polytechnic, was the featured speaker for the session.

The event commenced with welcome address from Prof. Saira Mehnaz, Chairperson of the Department of Community Medicine, setting the tone for an engaging discourse. Dr. Husain emphasized the importance of cultivating environmental consciousness and highlighted how environmental health intertwines with human well-being. He commented on the global shift towards renewable energy sources and stressed the need for collaborative efforts.

Dr. Husain presented alarming statistics on global plastic production and consumption; he underscored the significance of reducing, reusing, and recycling plastics, urging responsible consumer behavior to curb pollution.

The lecture garnered participation from faculty members and residents of the Department of Community Medicine, facilitating a meaningful exchange of knowledge and experiences. Concluding the session, Dr. Karthika P, extended vote of thanks.
