JAMMU : Division of Livestock Farm Complex, Faculty of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, R.S. Pura today conducted “Hands on training on Livestock Farm Practices” under University Funded Projects “Technical interventions to improve milk productions for dairy farmers of Jammu region” and “Backyard Poultry rearing for women empowerment and food security in Jammu region.”

The event was held under the aegis of Dean, FVSc & AH, SKUAST-J. Over 60 farmers from different villages of Panchayat Gagian of district Jammu actively participated in the training. Sarpanch and Panch Gagian were also present on the occasion.

Prof. (Dr.) M S Bhadwal, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, RS Pura welcomed the gathering and talked about scientific management of animals. He stressed upon enhancing the productivity of animals rather than increasing the number of animals. He explained the role of dairy farming in income generation and its integrated approach. He explained the low-cost vermicomposting and cow dung log making technology.

Dr. Nazam Khan, Assistant Professor gave hand on training on feed formulation, silage preparation and selection criteria of dairy animals and distributed gum boots and mineral mixture among the farmers.

Dr. Vikas Mahajan, Assistant Professor told about the importance of clean milk production and different methods of milking, backyard poultry farming and the importance of grooming of dairy animals. Dr. Akhil Verma, Professor said about round the year fodder production. Dr. Suraj Amrutkar, Assistant Professor highlighted the integrated poultry farming and its importance.

Himalaya representatives, Sh, Bhimashwar Rana, S. Gurdeep Singh and Sh. Pawan Sharma also showed different Himalaya products in display and distributed some products free of cost to the farmers
