Faculty of Law, AMU Organises National Seminar on Criminal Justice System

Aligarh : The Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organized a national seminar on the “Criminal Justice System in India at Crossroad” in hybrid mode in memory of Late Prof. Mohd Zakariya Siddiqui, Former Dean, Faculty of Law, AMU.

Prof. Zafar Mahfooz Nomani, Dean, Faculty of Law welcomed the dignitaries and delegates in the presence of Prof. Rashida Rana Siddiqui (wife of Prof Siddiqui), Mrs. Saba Zakariya Ahmad (daughter) and Faisal Zakariya Siddiqui (son) and recollected his personal reminiscences and scholastic exhortations of Prof. Zakariya Siddiqui, in shaping the faculty of Law.

Prof. Balraj Chauhan, former Vice Chancellor, Dharmashastra National Law University, Jabalpur and Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow inaugurated the seminar and dwelled upon the scholarly contributions of Prof. Zakariya Siddiqui in reforming prosecution system in India in general and state of Uttar Pradesh in particular.

The inaugural session witnessed an address by Prof. Meraj Uddin Mir, Former Vice Chancellor, Central University of Kashmir, Srinagar who recalled his association as a researcher and acknowledged basic postulates of criminal jurisprudence and canon of criminal justice dispensation.

Prof. Faizan Mustafa, former Vice Chancellor, The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University, Hyderabad went down the memory lane and acknowledged his theoretical discourses of criminal law and criminology in honing out strategy of reform of the present criminal justice system.

Prof. Nuzhat Parween Khan, former Dean, Faculty of Law, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi felt indebted to Prof. Zakariya Siddiqui to join the legal academia and pursue research on juvenile justice and criminal forensics.

Prof Syed Mohd Afzal Qadri, former Dean, School of Law, University of Kashmir, Srinagar recalled his research mentoring in the area of plea bargaining and right based victim approach in criminological and penological perspective.

Prof Sarfaraz A Khan from West Bengal National University of Juridical Science, Kolkata, located the legacy of Prof. Zakariya on embarking probation, parole and rehabilitation of victims under criminal justice system.

Prof. Anurag Deep of Indian Law Institute, Delhi delineated major principles of criminal justice rendered by Prof. Zakariya Siddiqui in the contemporary perspective.

The Seminar was presided over by Mr. Faisal Zakariya Siddiqui, Director of Engineering & Head of Machine Learning Platform Netflix in California, USA who focussed on his father’s personality in creating legal acumen to generations of law researcher and emphasized to carry forward his legacy in times to come.

Mrs. Saba Zakariya underlined the need to foster intellectual tradition of Prof. Siddiqui and academic ambience of the Faculty of Law.

Delegates from Kerala, Delhi, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh presented their research papers in the seminar.
