Fakir Mohan University, Department of Social Science, Balasore, Odisha, Organizes International E-Conference On “Impact of COVID-19 on Economy: Global and India”

Balasore: In view of the Economic slowdown due to Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on various sectors of economy in India and Worldwide, an International One-day E-conference on “Impact of COVID-19 on Economy: Global and India” was organized by P.G. Department of Social Science, Fakir Mohan University on 14th August. The One day International E-Conference was convened by Dr. Sunil Kumar Padhi, Head of the Department of Social Science and co-convened by Dr. Gitanjali Panda. Dr. Sanjib Kumar Majhi and Dr. Sachita Nanda Sa.
The E-conference was organized in collaboration with Indian Economic Association (IEA). Academicians, Scholars and thinkers from within and outside India participated in the conference. Dr. Sunil Kumar Padhi gave the welcome address of the conference, further Honourable Vice Chancellor of F.M. University Prof. Madhumita Das and Chairman, P.G. Council, Prof. Sachidananda Dehury addressed the participants.


The Concept note of the conference was presented by Dr. Sachita Nanda Sa. In this Conference, Prof. Constance Devereaux from University of Conecticut, United States of America presented her ideas on the topic of “Covid-19 and its implication on Education and Culture” as International Speaker. Moreover, well known economists from India such as Prof. Ghanshyam Singh, President, Indian Economic Association (IEA), Prof. Kumar Bar Das, Former Vice Chancellor, Fakir Mohan University, Prof. Anoop Pant, Sharda University, New Delhi and Prof. Shushanta Kumar Mahapatra, ICFAI, Hyderabad dispensed their research based deliberation in the conference. More than 1800 scholars and faculty members from around the world registered and participated in the conference via Zoom and YouTube portal.
In this occasion, various issues relating to Covid-19 and possible solutions were discussed covering a wide range of topic from migrant distress, poverty, unemployment, food insecurity, trade deficit, economic crisis and suggested some concrete policies such as balance regional development, inclusive growth and principle of economic self-sufficiency (Atma-Nirbhar) to mitigate the current covid-crisis. A question answer session was convened by Dr. Sanjib Kumar Majhi including discussion and suggestion for the mitigation of the sudden issues arose by the Covid-19 pandemic. Lastly Dr. Gitanjali Panda offered a formal vote of thanks and with it the day long international e-conference came to an end. The support and contributions of Faculty members Dr. Pabitra Mohan Nayak, Dr. Sipra Sagarika, Ms. Smrutisikta Thapa and Research Scholar of the Department Manoj Kumar Sial was highly appreciated.
The proceedings of the conference will come out as an edited volume and the team will share the policy implications to the government.
