FDP held on implementation of NEP 2020

ALIGARH : The Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University organized an eight-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) online to enhance the teaching and research capabilities of faculty members from various academic disciplines.

Welcoming the guest speakers and participants, Prof. Mujibul Hasan Siddiqui, Chairman of the department, said that the FDP focused on implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, multidisciplinary education, and research methodologies. The programme featured 16 sessions.

In his presidential remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof Shafey Kidwai said that the FDP will provide the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to implement modern teaching strategies.

Dr. Mohammad Hanif Ahmad, Programme Coordinator, presented the concept note and encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions and gain practical insights to apply in their respective institutions.

Prof. Nasrin (Department of Education) emphasized the need to recognize and address student diversity in classrooms and ensure equitable educational opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds, and Prof. Sajid Jamal (Department of Education) delved into the idea of holistic and multidisciplinary education as outlined in NEP 2020.

Addressing an interactive session on Yoga in Everyday Life, Prof. Zamirullah Khan, Department of Physical Education, explored the role of yoga in enhancing mental and physical well-being, while Prof. Aasim Zafar, Department of Computer Science, provided an in-depth session on the development of MOOCs for the SWAYAM platform, highlighting the growing importance of digital learning and the strategies needed to create engaging online courses.

Prof. S. M. Khan, Department of Psychology, introduced the participants to the feasibility of managing research projects using Generative AI, showcasing how AI can streamline processes from literature review to data analysis.

Dr. Mohammad Shaheer Siddiqui (Department of Education) discussed the use of cinema and literature as educational tools, illustrating how films and literary works can foster creativity, critical thinking, and deeper learning among students.

Prof. Akthar Parveen from MANUU, Hyderabad, guided participants through designing a successful research proposal, while Dr Arshad Husain, University Polytechnic, AMU, stressed the necessity of integrating environmental consciousness into modern education.

Dr. Haseeb Athar, Department of Statistics and Operations Research, conducted two consecutive sessions on Data Analysis using SPSS.

Prof. Arshad Ikram from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to educational research, urging educators to break away from traditional research methods and adopt innovative research methods aligned with NEP 2020.

Dr. Nakhat Nasreen (Department of Education) discussed quality leadership in teacher education.

Prof. Mohd. Abid Siddiqui (Department of Education) conducted a session on teaching competencies required for inclusive classes, while Prof. Gunjan Dubey (Department of Education) explored the role of Indian Knowledge Systems within the framework of NEP 2020.

Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Department of Social Work, discussed the alignment of social work practices with NEP’s broader vision and the role educators play in promoting social justice and community service.

Prof. Heena K. Bijli from the School of Continuing Education, IGNOU, New Delhi, focused on the future of Open and Distance Learning (ODL), highlighting the need for innovative approaches to make education more accessible and flexible.

Prof. Mohammad Miyan, Former Vice-Chancellor, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, was the chief guest in the valedictory programme.

Dr. Mohammad Hanif Ahmad extended a vote of thanks.
