FDP on Case Development concludes
ALIGARH : The subject experts and teacher-participants delved into the various aspects of the case development and discussed challenges in case analysis throughout the one-week Faculty Development Programme on “Case Development and Case Teaching and Case Colloquium”, organized by the Department of Business Administration, Aligarh Muslim University, which concluded here with a valedictory session.
Addressing the participants, chief guest, Prof Mohammad Gulrez (Pro-Vice Chancellor, AMU) threw light on the shift from service sector to industrial sector in the Indian economy. Emphasising on the importance of case teaching, he shared how his experience in India and abroad became more enlightening by implementing case analysis method. He hoped India will soon catch up with the world in its own innovative ways.
Guest of honour, AMU Registrar, Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS) reminisced his days as a management student and discussed the growing relevance of the case method, and how significant it is in teaching concepts.
He urged the participants to work hard in researching and coming up with the case studies of greater significance that would help their students achieve bigger success in their career and help this department find a higher place in ranking framework. He hoped for an envious place for AMU’s Management Faculty in conducting unique case studies.
Earlier, welcoming the guests and participants, Prof Salma Ahmed (Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Research and Organizing Secretary, FDP) briefly described the contents discussed during the FDP and laid special focus on identification of case leads, case analysis, and case teaching.
Elaborating the process of case assessment in Case Colloquium, Prof Salma urged the participants to pay special attention on 3 Ps – Passion, Perseverance, and Patience, while conducting a case study.
Prof. Jamal Ahmad Farooquie (Chairman, Department of Business Administration) presented a brief report of the FDP and urged the participants to first link theory with practice, develop cases and arrive at solutions.
The FDP also featured recognitions and appreciation of participants for Best Case Idea, Best Case Title, Active Participation, Brevity and Best Learner.
In Case Colloquium, the Best-Case Award of Rs. 10,000/- was shared by two Cases, one presented by Ms Faria Zafar and Ms Indu Perepu- from IBS Case Research Centre, Hyderabad. The title of their case was “Airbnb: Beating Covid-19 Induced Existential Crisis through Online Experiences”. The other case was authored by Dr Shiraz Khan under the title, “Shahnaz Husain – One of a Kind”.
The jury members, Prof. Naima Khatoon (Principal, Women’s College), Prof. Salma Ahmed and Prof. Feza Tabassum Azmi suggested few more categories of awards including the Unique Theme Award, Innovative Idea Award and Judges’ Special Mention Award.
Dr. Tariq Aziz (Treasurer, FDP) proposed a vote of thanks. Dr. Zareen Husain Farooq (Co-organizing Secretary) worked hard to organize the FDP.
