FIBA Level 2 Coaching Certification Course Concluded at Shiv Nadar School
Noida: Federation International Basketball Association (FIBA) in partnership with World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) and Basketball Federation of India (BFI) successfully concluded the FIBA Level 2 Certification Course at Shiv Nadar School, Noida today. The program started on May 18, 2017 and provided an opportunity to select 14 coaches from all over India to improve their coaching techniques which will help develop the game in the country. The course was led by FIBA Coaching Instructor Nelson Isley, a highly decorated and experienced instructor with over 40 years of experience. He was assisted by Brahmaditya, who is a FIBA Level 3 coach (highest level of coaching) and also a basketball coach at the Shiv Nadar School.
The seven-day certification course constituted 30% theory and 70% practical demonstration. This was followed by a written exam and on-court practical demonstrations, where the coaches showcased their skills. This is the first time that FIBA and BFI involved school students in the coaching clinic. Forty students were selected from schools across the NCR and given the opportunity to be coached by Nelson Isley and the other 14 coaches, part of the training program. This was done keeping in mind the importance of early expert coaching intervention as the age group of 10-12 years is considered to be the most impressionable years for athletic development.
FIBA Coaching Instructor Nelson Isley said, “I have travelled around 100 countries and India is one of my favorite destinations. The players in the country especially young women players have great potential to become national and international basketball stars. The Indian coaches have always shown interest and willingness to learn new basketball techniques. I would also like to acknowledge Shiv Nadar School (Noida) for providing us and the participating coaches and students with excellent state-of-the-art sports infrastructure.”

This coaching clinic is organized every year and FIBA is the independent, international association that governs the game of basketball around the world. FIBA is the only basketball body recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).The program is being held in line with BFI and FIBA’s long-term coaching development strategy.
