Films Division celebrating “Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas” on 15th November by streaming films on tribes of India

New Delhi: The Government of India has declared 15th November, the birthday of great tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda, as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas in recognition of his indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation. Films Division is celebrating Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on 15th November, 2021 by screening a short film on him, “A Song of Birsa” followed by five documentary films on various tribes of India. The documentaries will be streamed on Films Division website and YouTube Channel on 15th November as a part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebration by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India

The films being streamed as part of the package are A Song of Birsa (17.02 Mins /1979) – a biographical film on Birsa Munda, Man in Search of Man (21 Mins /1974) – a film exploring the life of the tribals in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Across the Hill (27 Mins / 2010) -an Anthropological documentary on the Mara tribes of Mizoram, Bastar – Rhythm of Progress (15 Mins / 1975) -a film depicting the life of tribals and their folk arts which are increasingly getting the urban patronage, The Wind in the Marwa Field (52 Mins / 2015) -an ethnographic documentary on the TOTO tribe of West Bengal, one of the smallest tribes of India having a population of 1400 people and Bhagoria (26 Mins /2016) on the famous tribal festival of Madhya Pradesh.
