First Comprehensive Cardiac Life Support Course Completed at JNMC, AMU

Aligarh : The inaugural Comprehensive Cardiac Life Support (CCLS) course, certified by the Indian Resuscitation Council (IRCF) and recognized by the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), was successfully conducted at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). The course was held on 9th-10th and 16th-17th November 2024, exclusively for postgraduate students.

A total of 60 resident doctors participated and completed the course, fulfilling a mandatory requirement set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for MD and MS candidates before their exit exams. The training was led by Prof. S. Moied Ahmed as the Course Coordinator, with Prof. Rakesh Garg from AIIMS, New Delhi, serving as the National Observer. Expert instructors from AIIMS, Safdarjung, and GIMS facilitated the sessions.

Since 2019, JNMC has been an IRCF-recognized Comprehensive Resuscitation Training Centre (CRTC), initially offering Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BCLS) courses. The acquisition of advanced high-fidelity simulators enabled the organization of this advanced course.

During this course, five faculty members from the Department of Anaesthesiology & Critical Care—Dr. Abu Nadeem, Dr. Obaid A Siddiqui, Dr. Farah Nasreen, Dr. Shahna Ali, and Dr. Manazir Athar—underwent instructor training, qualifying them to train residents in-house.

In recognition of the instructors’ contributions, Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, presented them with saplings during the inaugural ceremony and announced funding for additional simulators. Prof. Hammad Usmani, Chairperson of the Department, commended the faculty’s dedication and pledged full logistical support for future training programs.
