Fit India Week observations continue at AMU

ALIGARH  : The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez today led a Walkathon organized by Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University as part of the observance of Fit India Week.

The Principal, Women’s College, Prof Naima Khatoon, Dean Faculty of Medicine, Prof Veena Maheshwari, Principal and CMS, JNMC, Prof Haris M. Khan, Principal Dr ZA Dental College, Prof R. K. Tewari, faculty members, students and staff participated in the walkathon held to spread awareness about keeping fit and leading a healthy life by adopting regular physical workout and healthy food habits.

During the week-long celebrations at Dr. Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, BDS students and faculty members participated in several observations, including Lecture Series, sports, athletics and cultural programmes. These programmes covered a wide range of activities including Musical Chair, Cricket match, Table Tennis tournament, Chess, 100 and 200-meter races, Lemon Race, Spoon race, Balloon balance competition, Slow biking event, Tug of war, Carom, Badminton, Kho-Kho tournament, Treasure hunt, Quiz competition, Beg Borrow Steal game and Walkathon (Run for Fitness).

In his inaugural address, Prof R K Tewari, Principal of the college, highlighted the significance of keeping fit and educating others to adopting a healthy lifestyle, doing physical exercises on daily basis and maintaining a balanced diet to keep healthy.

Coordinated by the Department of Prosthodontics, Crowns, and Bridges, the day featured enlightening lectures and health talks by Prof. Mohammad Shameem, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Dar and Dr. Ruhi Khan on the themes, “Air quality: A Pulmonologist Vision, Participation in Sports Activities and Physician’s Perspective for Health”.

Prof. Shaista Afroz, Chairperson, Prof Geeta Rajput, Convenor, and Dr Shraddha Rathi supervised the lecture series.

Meanwhile, at the Department of Economics, the fitness activities commenced with a ‘Fitness Pledge’ led by Prof. Shehroz Alam Rizvi, Chairman of the department and programme convener. Later, the students participated in the events, including an Intra-University Online Debate, Essay writing and Poster Making Competitions.

Illyas T. won the first prize in the online Debate on the theme, “Impact of Lifestyle on Health,”, while Ajay Kumar Saraswat and Chaudhary SD Qudratullah Soheel got the second and third prizes, respectively.

In the online Essay Writing Competition on “Health Benefits of Indigenous Sports of India,” Mohammad Saif Ali and Afifa Qavi got the first and second prizes, while the third prize was jointly given to Puneet Kumar Sharma and Zainab Sainullah. Kriti Mishra received a consolation prize.

Aabid Gani (B. Tech.) won the first prize in the online Poster Making competition on the theme, “Health Benefits of Indian Diet,” while Fatima Khan (B.Sc. Biochemistry) and Syed Ashraf Hussain (B.Ed.) got the second and third prizes, respectively. Kaunain Raza (BA, English) received a consolation prize.

Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, Prof. Shehroz Alam Rizvi emphasized the crucial role of such initiatives in promoting health awareness among the youth. He shed light on the myriad benefits of yoga, traditional diets, and indigenous sports in fostering a healthy lifestyle.
