Five new designated UNESCO Global Geoparks in Asia and the Pacific
Fifteen new designated UNESCO Global Geoparks – including five in Asia and the Pacific – were approved on 10 July 2020 during the 209th Session of UNESCO Executive Board meeting in Paris, France:
- Xiangxi UNESCO Global Geopark (China)
- Zhangye UNESCO Global Geopark (China)
- Toba Caldera UNESCO Global Geopark (Indonesia)
- Hantangang River UNESCO Global Geopark (Republic of Korea)
- Dak Nong UNESCO Global Geopark (Viet Nam)
The new addition brings the list of UNESCO Global Geoparks Network to 161 in 44 countries. The designated of UNESCO Global Geoparks aim at protecting the Earth’s geodiversity as well as actively engaging with local community through geotourism.
