FLAME University signs MoU with Amherst College, Massachusetts, a premier liberal arts college in USA
Pune: FLAME University, the pioneer of liberal education in India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amherst College, Amherst, Massachusetts, USA, to collaborate on academic and student initiatives, share best practices and generate cutting edge research studies.
Speaking about the collaboration between FLAME University and Amherst, Professor Dishan Kamdar, Vice-Chancellor, FLAME University said, “FLAME University is happy to announce its partnership with Amherst. This partnership signifies an important step forward in our mission of making FLAME a truly global institution. As liberal education gets acknowledged as the game changer for the future, we aspire to exchange knowledge and best practices that will allow us to collaborate and contribute to the advancement of liberal education globally.”
Sharing her thoughts on the collaboration with FLAME University, Catherine Epstein, Provost and Dean of the Faculty, Amherst College, said, “We’re delighted to build a strong relationship with FLAME University, one of the premier liberal arts institutes in India. With this partnership, we will provide outstanding opportunities to our students and faculty to engage in collaborative learning and research. I very much look forward to sending our students and faculty to FLAME, and to hosting FLAME students and faculty at Amherst.”
The FLAME – Amherst collaboration is for an initial period of 5 years. Amherst students may spend one semester taking liberal arts courses with and living in residences alongside FLAME students. FLAME faculty come from top institutions in India and around the world. The small class size will be familiar to Amherst students, which offers many opportunities for engaging with professors. Similarly, FLAME University students can also spend one semester or an entire year taking liberal arts courses with and living in residences alongside Amherst students. This exchange program is for undergraduate students.
The collaboration also includes students, faculty and staff exchanges, research collaborations, curricular development, conduction of experiential learning programs, pedagogical innovations, academic conferences and colloquium series.
Currently, FLAME University has collaborations with prestigious global institutions across the world such as Nuffield College – University of Oxford, Wellesley College, Kelley School of Business – Indiana University Bloomington, Babson Collaborative, and IE University.
Global Connect Initiative @FLAME
The Global Connect initiative at FLAME University aims to promote FLAME’s internationalization strategy. It is a mutually beneficial association of the University with leading international universities, reputed institutes and internationally acclaimed research bodies. The aim of these collaborations, in addition to the academic enrichment of students and faculty, is to provide the FLAME community opportunities for a global view of things and a diverse mix of perspectives.
Additionally, FLAME University has been accepted as a member in the Global Liberal Arts Alliance. It’s the first Indian institution to be represented in the Global Liberal Arts Alliance, the only global consortium of its kind comprising leading liberal arts institutions around the world.
