Work experience placements in exercise science, marketing and business will be offered to Flinders University students thanks to a slam-dunk new community partnership with the Adelaide 36ers.

The major partnership means Flinders University will be featured prominently on the lower back of the Adelaide 36ers jersey for the next two NBL seasons, starting with a pre-season game against South East Melbourne Phoenix at the Darwin Basketball Facility, where the university operates an NT campus, on September 16.

Flinders will also be the naming rights partner to an exciting Adelaide 36ers high school program which will be released later this year.

In a partnership encouraging hands on learning during study, students will be embedded in the daily business operations of an iconic Australian sporting organisation with course offerings specifically linked to the clubs renowned high-performance, strength and conditioning program.

The 36ers are also supporting university efforts to reverse declining sport participation in Australia by taking the Flinders Basketball team through their paces at a private training session with Head Coach and former Olympian, CJ Bruton.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) Professor Romy Lawson says Flinders is strengthening learning outcomes for students undertaking placements as part of their degree.

“This partnership with the Adelaide 36ers is actively supporting hands on learning in a range of courses, including exercise science, where our students are undertaking 140 hours of placement, providing them with outstanding opportunities for real-world experience as the NBL expands its national reach.”

“Students on work integrated placements have a real desire to gain valuable practical experience and increase their opportunities and there’s no better way than by enabling the application of their knowledge in an exciting sporting atmosphere.”

The partnership will also see Adelaide 36ers offering Flinders students discounted tickets, memberships and merchandise.

Adelaide 36ers Chief Commercial Officer John Tsianos said the club was thrilled that it has attracted a leading Australian university to the Club.

“As a Club we are always striving to improve and this partnership proves our focus for success both on and off the court,” says Tsianos.

“To have the support of Flinders University strengthens our club and we’re excited to have them onboard as we embark on our journey in engaging with secondary schools”.
