Flinders University: Flinders and CDW Studios climb Rookies rankings
Flinders University and CDW studios have climbed the global ‘Rookies’ rankings to be listed amongst the top 30 creative media and entertainment art schools and colleges in the world and the top ranked VFX Australian program.
The world-beating result was announced by The Rookies, an international, industry-recognised organisation that evaluates the work of digital illustration and design students from the world’s leading digital media and art schools.
Over 500 academic programs submitted student work for the rankings which saw the Flinders University and CDW partnership maintain a #6 ranking in 2D animation, #8 in concept art, #15 in best visual effects schools and #27 in creative media and entertainment schools, making Flinders University the top ranked Creative Media & Entertainment school in Australia.
Flinders University and CDW Studios partner to deliver courses in visual effects and entertainment design in Adelaide and online, instructed by Flinders lecturers and world-class teachers who are professional practitioners and have worked with some of the globe’s top entertainment providers.
For the past decade, students graduating in the program have regularly won international accolades for their outstanding work and have gone on to showcase their talents by securing employment with international entertainment companies like Marvel, Warner Brothers and game development companies.
The strong rankings showing follows individual runner-up and finalist accolades for students selected in the Rookie of the Year, People’s Choice and Rookie of the Year Concept Art categories earlier this year.
Coordinator of the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design) Katie Cavanagh says the 2022 rankings result is a reflection of the programs success in fostering students at the cutting-edge of digital design, with the capacity to immediately develop outstanding work, in a booming global VFX industry.
“This unbelievable Rookies achievement is testament to the Flinders University and CDW Studios partnership, which is now rightfully recognised as one of the best in the world, and builds on our stellar results in various categories for many years.”
“Being recognised in the world’s top 30 schools and colleges, alongside our top 10 category rankings, reflects the amazing quality of our students and the determination of our teachers to prepare them for opportunities in an evolving VFX industry offering a growing number of roles for talented designers in film, visual arts and gaming around the world, and in South Australia.”
CDW Animation Director Simon Scales says the students that are studying the bachelor degree are truly of international standard and the work that they have been producing during the degree is absolutely outstanding.
“Confirmation of the quality of students work has been shown with a number of students/graduates in the last 6-12 months been hired at AAA studios around the globe. Flying Bark, Rising Sun Pictures, MPC, Playside, Disney and Blizzard just to name a few.”
