Floriculture Deptt organises 1 day training cum awareness camp at Khillani Top

DODA : A One day training cum awareness programme on ‘Commercial Floriculture’ was today organized by the Floriculture Department at Khillani top, block Bhalla under Jan Abhiyan.

District Development Council, Councillor Bhaderwah-West Yudhvir Thakur was the chief guest. Besides sarpanches, panches and more than 40 farmers participated in the training programme.

Pawan Kumar, Assistant Floriculture officer Doda imparted farmers’ awareness about cultivation of Marigold, Lavender plantation, establishment of lavender nurseries and protected cultivation of cut flowers to get more returns than traditional farming. He said that in district Doda more than 350 farmers are cultivating Marigold every year and earning handsome money. More than 1000 families involved in Lavender cultivation are earning far higher than they were earlier getting from traditional farming like maize, wheat etc, he said. After adopting commercial Floriculture by means of lavender and marigold cultivation their income has quadrupled,” he added.

The Department of Floriculture, besides providing scientific know-how, is also providing incentive to the farmers under centrally sponsored schemes.

Sunil Singh, Deputy Director Floriculture Jammu, briefed the farmers about centrally sponsored schemes of the Department. Threadbare discussion was held between farmers and officers of the Department about flower crop cultivation, marketing and value addition of products.

Kanshi Nath Chopra, Sarpanch Khillani Top appreciated the efforts of the floriculture department for conducting an awareness camp to inform a large number of farmers about different schemes of the department which are helping farmers to enhance their income four times than traditional farming.

Yudhvir Singh, District development councillor, advised the department to organise such awareness camps on regular intervals to enable maximum farmers to avail the benefits of the schemes meant for uplift of their socio economic status.
