Forest Rights Committees constituted in all 237 Panchayats of Doda

Doda: The Forest Rights Committees were today constituted in all 237 Panchayats of Doda district for the effective implementation of the Forest Rights Act.

The Act provides for recognising the rights of forest dwellers (ST/OTFD) on ancestral lands and their habitat, besides conservation of forests with a participatory approach, while the Forest Rights Committees at Panchayat level is a first step forward.

Having the great importance and fundamentally powerful position at the grassroots level, the FRCs shall act as the executive body of the Gram sabha of the Panchayat. In this regard, the RDD department conducted the gram sabhas across the district and formulated the FRCs with a Chairperson and Secretary.

The PRI members, including Panchs, Sarpanches, BDC Chairpersons and newly elected DDC members also participated in the Gram Sabhas, and made the locals aware about the various measures/guidelines and importance of the act.
