Free breast cancer screening cum awareness camp held at Rajouri

Rajouri: To create awareness on breast cancer and to make healthcare reachable to the common masses in this regard, a free medical camp for the screening of patients for breast cancer and other metabolic tests was today organised here at GMC&AH Rajouri under the aegis of Director Health Services Kashmir, Jk, Sponsored by Abbot Point of care USA, U E Life Science USA.

Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh Kumar Shavan was the Chief Guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Sher Singh; Principal GMC, Kuldeep Singh besides officers of the Health Department and paramedical staff were also present on the occasion.

During the camp, a team of experts examined the women and the specific focus was on sensitising them about breast cancer and screening for the said type of cancer and other metabolic tests were also conducted.

The speakers informed that at present there is insufficient knowledge on the causes of breast cancer and early detection was the cornerstone for breast cancer control.

“Early detection coupled with adequate diagnosis and treatment brightens the chance of curing the breast cancer. But If detected late, however, curative treatment is often no longer an option. In such cases, palliative care to relieve the suffering of patients and their families is needed” the speakers.

The Deputy Commissioner, while speaking on the occasion, stressed upon the concerned authorities from the Health Department to ensure that the best possible treatment is provided to the breast cancer patients. He suggested for generating massive awareness among the masses about breast Cancer and the precautions to be taken to remain safe from this disease.
