The G20 3rd Health Working Group meeting will begin on Sunday in Hyderabad to carry forward the agenda of the G20 Health Track under India’s Presidency.
The 3-day meeting will focus on three priorities including Health Emergencies Prevention, Preparedness, and Response, Access and Availability to Affordable Medical countermeasures, and Digital Health. Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Lav Agarwal informed the media that the meeting will voice the challenges of the Global South and discuss the solutions. He said that India has garnered in-principle agreement to the three proposed priorities and seeks to build global convergence on an agile, aligned global health architecture. He said, India’s G20 Presidency comes up with a unique opportunity to voice the concerns of the Global South. He said, India will share its experience of its initiatives like Co-Win and Vaccine Maitri and how technology has been a great enabler in reaching the last mile through telemedicine.
The G20 3rd Health Working Group meeting will witness about 180 members, 10 invitees, and 22 international organisations. In addition, the meeting will focus on Research and Development and Innovation in its side events. The G20 delegates will be visiting Genome Valley and will witness India’s prowess in research and development and pharmaceutical manufacturing in Hyderabad.
Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya earlier yesterday addressed the Global Vaccine Research Collaborative workshop on Vaccine Research and Development: Building Consensus for Future Health Emergencies Prevention, Preparedness, and Response. The event was organised on the sidelines of the 3rd G20 Health Working Group.
