Gandhi Jayanti at AMU
Aligarh : Prof Bindu Puri, Centre for Philosophy, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi delineated Mahatma Gandhi’s dedication for bringing justice to all in society.
She was delivering a lecture on ‘Gandhi’s Politics and the Concern for Justice: An Equality of Deference (Ahimsa Swabhava Swaraj Tapasya)’ in the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations of the Department of Philosophy, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
“Mahatma Gandhi advocated for political, social and economic freedom for all sections of the Indian society and his thoughts and practices are equally relevant even in present times as they were during the freedom struggle”, said Prof Bindu adding that Gandhian principles of Satyagraha and non-violence will continue to inspire generations.
Dr Aquil Ahmad (Chairman, Department of Philosophy) delivered the welcome address and Prof Latif Hussain Shah Kazmi gave the concluding remarks.
Dr Aamir Riyaz extended the vote of thanks, while Dr Shahidul Hoque conducted the programme.
At the AMU Malappuram Centre, BA.LLB second year student, Affina SS won the speech competition on ‘Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s Philosophy and Ideas in Modern India’ held to observe the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations of the Law Society, Dept of Law, Malappuram Centre.
Yaqoob Murtaza (BA LLB, fifth year) finished second in the contest. Fathima S (BA.LLB, third year) and Abdul Haseeb N (BA.LLB, fifth year) shared the third place.
Faculty members Dr Absar Aftab Absar, Dr Shaista Nasreen and Dr Firoz were judges of the competition inaugurated by Dr Shahnawaz Ahmed Malik.
Dr Sadaf Jafri announced the contest results, Asjad Alam conducted the programme and Nihal Mohammed extended the vote of thanks.
