Gandhi Jayanti essay competition
Aligarh: Ahmad Siddiqui (M.A. Linguistics) won the first prize in the essay writing competition on ‘Mahatma Gandhi as a Symbol of Peace and Non-Violence’ organised by the Department of Linguistics, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in line with the Government of India directives to commemorate the Gandhi Jayanti, birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Uzma Afrin (M.A. Linguistics) secured the second position in the competition, while Soumya Abidi and Tooba Sarfaraz jointly shared the third place. Hilal Manzar Faridi (B.A Linguistics) and Manzoor Ahmad (M.A. LAMM) were given the consolation prizes.
“Participations in such competitions make students aware of works and contributions of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, whose ideologies and kindness drove India to independence,” said Prof M J Warsi, Chairman, Department of Linguistics.
Dr Abdul Aziz Khan and Dr Nazrin B Laskar were the conveners of the competition.
