Gannon’s student-run radio station 90.5 WERG just arrived back from the 2023 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) media conference in New York City.
90.5 WERG was the national champion in Best Sports Play-By-Play for Erie Otters Hockey (Trevor Kubeja and Mario Bruni). This was a pre-season game that 90.5 WERG was invited to carry on September 2 by the Ontario Hockey League after being selected to do so during their “College Radio Kickoff” campaign.

90.5 WERG was also a national finalist in three content awards from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System:

Best Sports Talk Program for The Prime Time Sports Guys, now Erie’s only live and local sports talk radio show (Trevor Kubeja and Mario Bruni)
Best Live Broadcast Promotional Event for their on-location program during Celebrate Gannon 2022 (Erik Konwinski, Abigail Ritchie, Khoi Huynh, Madison Maurice).
Leadership Award: Best Social Media Director (Mario Bruni)

The IBS represents hundreds of college radio stations nation-wide, all of which compete in the annual media awards competition.

While in New York, members of 90.5 WERG learned that the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) declared the radio station a winner in two categories:

Outstanding Coverage of a Local Sporting Event, for the aforementioned Erie Otters Hockey game;
Judges’ Merit for The History of WERG Radio: The Seventies (Sean Morphy, Chet LaPrice)
The PAB represents all broadcasters in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania: not just educational media but commercial broadcasting companies state-wide, including Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Erie, Gannon.
