Gannon University: Student Organization Impact Awards Honors Knights and their Engagement

At Gannon’s office of Leadership Development & Campus Engagement (LDCE), our purpose is to transform lives and inspire transformation by helping students find their belonging through authentic connections, identity groups, engagement opportunities, and developmental experiences.


This year the LDCE hosted the Student Organization Impact Awards, honoring the excellent work and engagement of our students throughout the year.

COLLABORATION AWARD: AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER SOCIETY, INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL SYSTEM ENGINEERS AND SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS
This award is given to a group of organizations that have successfully worked together to sponsor or host an event or program that has benefitted the Gannon campus community.

COMMUNITY IMPACT AWARD: GAMMA SIGMA SIGMA
This award recognizes a club that has contributed time, support, or money on a local level to better the Erie community. The Community Impact Award goes to a student group that has participated in community service with vigor, devotion, and an unshakable positive attitude. This student organization serves with inspirational and infectious optimism and leads the way for others through their actions and involvement.

OUTSTANDING MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AWARD: MODEL UNITED NATIONS
This award goes to the best and most effective membership educational programming put on by a club or organization. This is an award for clubs that go above and beyond in serving the needs of its members through speakers, workshops, retreats, conferences, and other acts to continually educate its members.

OUTSIDE THE BOX AWARD: ULTIMATE FRISBEE
This award recognizes a club or organization that has shown tremendous creativity and originality in “thinking outside the box.” This could include programming, membership recruitment, or creative marketing.

BEST NEW STUDENT ORGANIZATION AWARD: INSTITUTE OF INDUSTRIAL SYSTEMS ENGINEERS
This award recognizes a club or organization that has put forth effort to enhance the GU community and has maintained strong and consistent operations.

RISING STAR AWARD: ALEXA HARDING
This award is for a first-year member, not necessarily a first-year student, who has made great contributions to the organization.

COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE AND SERVICE AWARD: DOM BOOKER
This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to justice and/or has been an activist, trying to create positive change for the campus, the Gannon community, and/or the world. The individual should have strong leadership, passion, and dedication to a particular issue or collection of issues.

OUTSTANDING ADVISOR AWARD: DR. ALEX HOLBROOK
This award goes to an advisor or coach to a student organization with a strong educational role within the group who has helped students learn through their involvement. The nominee should demonstrate dedication, availability, and energy in their involvement with their students. They should be valued and respected by those students with whom they work and have a strong understanding of the organization’s needs and goals.

KNIGHTS IMAGE AWARD: KATHERINE DICKEY
This award is designed to recognize an outstanding member within an organization for all their individual hard work. This award will be presented to a student that, through their achievements, has made a valuable contribution and lasting impact on the Gannon community and/or surrounding community.

STUDENT ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR: ACTIVE MINDS
This award is presented to an organization that has made a significant effort to further its purpose through its contribution to Gannon University and the Erie community. This award recognizes the student organization that has demonstrated consistent flexibility, initiative, creativity, and perseverance through their activities and programs. Furthermore, the organization embodies the Gannon spirit through its commitment to leadership development, collaboration among groups, and programmatic efforts to enhance the quality of campus life at Gannon University. The Student Organization of the Year is considered a role model for other organizations on our campus.
