GCET Jammu hosts mega Technical event in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur

Jammu: To abreast the engineering students of UT of J&K with the latest trends in the field of Engineering and Technology and to encourage them to come up with innovative ideas to set up their own Start-Ups and become entrepreneurs, Government College for Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu hosted two day mega technical event – 7th” National Conference and Exhibition on Emerging and Innovative Trends in Engineering Technology (NCEEITET)” in technical collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.

The inaugural function of the event was held today in Jammu which was attended by dignitaries, technocrats, industry professionals and students from all over the country both through offline as well as online mode.

The event aims to provide a common platform to academicians, technocrats, researchers, students & industry professionals to forge collaborative alliances, ensuring the progress of science & technology as per the changing economy demands & the wellbeing of the global society with a particular reference at the UT level.

Dr. Sameru Sharma, Principal GCET welcomed Prof Manoj Singh Gaur, Director, IIT Jammu, Prof S.S. Pathak, IIT Kharagpur,the organizing chairperson of 7th NCEEITET, the distinguished guests and all the delegates to the event. In her address she highlighted that the purpose of organizing such events is to provide exposure to the engineering students of J&K on latest trends in engineering and technology and to provide them an opportunity to interact, deliberate and exchange their innovative ideas with amalgam of Academicians, Technocrats, Researchers, Students and Industry Professionals present during the event. She thanked the Administrative Department, Higher Education Department, J&K Govt. for providing full support in organising the event.

She expressed her gratitude to Chief Guest Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, IIT Jammu and Prof. S.S. Pathak, IIT Kharagpur and his team for their collaboration and continuation support in organizing this event. She thanked all the dignitaries, participants from CPUs/ PSUs, various organizations and Educational Institutions for accepting the invitation to this event.

She further added that the conference channelizes to inspire young budding engineers to reorient their mindset and build an ecosystem to encourage high quality research innovation and entrepreneurship particularly in UT of J&K. It provides an ideal opportunity to the students/ industry/ start-ups to display their working models/ projects/Business plans/ state- of – the- Art technologies/ achievements.

Prof. Manoj Singh Gaur, IIT Jammu while congratulating the organisers for holding such an interactive event even during the pandemic period, appreciated the milestones GCET has achieved during the recent past in terms of college infrastructure development, opening of higher degree courses, attaining national accreditation etc. He motivated the students to make use of various online platforms for enhancing their technical knowledge & skills and keep themselves updated with the latest technological happenings around the world. He assured that full support shall be provided by his institute in taking joint research initiatives.

Prof. S.S. Pathak, IIT Kharagpur, while addressing the audience on the occasion, said that the social application is attempted by innovative designs from graduating engineers. He added that the Joint contribution of academia, industry and governance is a special model of development taken over in the conference.

Further stating about the event, he said that the wide horizon of participation in NCEEITET is a proof of its growing popularity.

The keynote address was delivered by Syed Zubair Shah and Bharat Kotwani, from PGCIL, Gurgaon, who emphasized the role of smart power grids and other emerging areas like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Block Chain, which are more reliable and secure thereby resulting in an efficient system management. The PGCIL team also presented a live demonstration of smart grid project through video conferencing mode.

Dr. B.S. Bharj and Dr.Jyoti Bharj, both faculties from NIT Jalandhar demonstrated their IOT based smart indoor Air Bio Filter System named as UV Doser, conceptualised and, fabricated as a Start-Up at their innovative creative and appropriate technology services lab set up with an initiative to move from an “Engineering Institute to Industry”.

On the occasion, the E- Proceedings was also released by the Principal, Vinakshi Koul, Registrar GCET, coordinators namely Er Harinder Dhingra, Dr. Bhawna Sharma, Er Sheetal Gandotra and other faculty members of GCET. The two day conference comprises the Invited talks, plenary talks by eminent speakers and resource persons followed by five technical parallel sessions for the contributed paper presentations. Besides this, many students from different engineering colleges of Hyderabad, Jammu and Jaipur has presented their innovative ideas and accomplished projects. At last, the vote of thanks has been presented by Er. Harinder Dhingra.
