GCW Gandhi Nagar organises an Inter College Quiz, Poster making on Earth Day
Jammu: Two events were today organised by Government PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu to mark “International Earth Day” and- Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The events were held under the patronage of Dr. Sangita Nagari, Principal of the College. To celebrate the day, the faculty of Department of Botany organised an inter College Quiz Competition on the theme- ‘Restore our Earth- Responsibilities and Challenges” wherein more than 100 students from various Colleges of Jammu division participated. The quiz was coordinated by Dr. Anju Koul, Prof Renu Sharma and Prof Swarn Singh.
A poster making event on the theme- ‘Restore our earth’ was also organised by NSS unit of the college wherein 35 NSS volunteers showcased their talent and creativity.
The day is observed each year on 22nd of April, to create awareness about protecting our planet and preserving the environment.
The focus of this year is on natural processes, emerging green technologies and innovative thinking that can restore the world’s ecosystem.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. Sangita Nagari appreciated the efforts of faculty of department of Botany and NSS PO for organising the inter college quiz and poster making competition with great zeal. She encouraged the students to take a pledge and devise a plan of action to make the mother planet a happier and healthier place to live. She said that the earth day gives us a chance to express our gratitude to mother nature through our actions and words. She further added that the students should work for the betterment of the earth in whatever way they can and not to destroy the resources by their unscrupulous actions.
Both the events were organised under the supervision of Prof. Mala Bhasin, Head Department of Botany and NSS Programme Officer.
