GCW Parade hosts series of events to mark Earth Day-2022

 

JAMMU : To commemorate Earth Day 2022, the Department of Environmental Sciences, Government College for Women, Parade Ground hosted 2 day events starting from April 21 – 2022. The events were held under the guidance and supervision of the College Principal Dr S.P Sarswat.

On the first day an Inter-College Symposium was organized on the topic” Invest in Your Planet- Design your Future.

Evanshi Sharma of the host College secured first position, while second Place was clinched by Jatin Sharma from Dogra Degree College and 3rd position went to Tarwinder Kour of the host college. The event was presided over by Prof S. K. Dhar, Convenor, IQAC.

On Day 2, Cleanliness and Beautification drive was organized in the college in which students participated very enthusiastically

Afterwards, Dr. Rakesh Atri, Assistant Professor, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu who was the invited speaker delivered an interactive lecture on the topic ‘Ozone- from Discovery to Recovery’. He explained the successful recovery of Ozone in very simple terms with a well articulated presentation. Ms Harsha Gupta who was the second speaker gave a presentation on Biomass and Carbon Storage. Both the lectures were highly informative.

The event was coordinated by Prof. Priya Darshni, Dr Harmanmeet, Prof. Neha Gupta and Dr. Akanksha Koushal, Faculty members, Deptt. of Environmental Sciences. The welcome address was given by Prof. Priya Darshni, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences. The event was concluded by vote of thanks by Prof. Neha Gupta.
