GDC Baramulla organises interaction meet with progressive farmers on Vermicomposting

Baramulla: The Department of Botany, Government Degree College, Baramulla today organised a day-long progressive farmers meet on vermicomposting under the CPE/UGC sponsored Skill Development Program.
Prof. Mohammad Maqbool Rather, Principal of the college formally welcomed the participants, specifically farmers who had come from different places for attending the programme.
He also appreciated the efforts of Department of Botany of the college for designing new and innovative schemes replete with potential of benefiting not only to the immediate beneficiaries (i.e., students) but also to the community at large.
Prof. (Dr.) Abdul Rashid Malik, Head of Department presented a detailed account of the processes and mechanism of vermicomposting to the audience in a lucid and intelligible manner.
He also flagged certain flagship Skill Development Programs sponsored under CPE by UGC undertaken by the Department of Botany to train students and farmers in vermicomposting, saffron and mushroom cultivation that may eventually facilitate their livelihood and sustenance.
Prof. Malik in his concluding remarks voiced that the aim of conducting these and allied programs is to transpose technology from lab to land.
Moreover, Sandeep Singh Sodi, an officer of Agriculture Department Baramulla introduced various schemes for farmers who desire to take on small or large scale projects offered by the concerned department.
He assured the progressive farmers of all the possible support from the department.
Farmers from different agriculturally active areas of the district besides the faculty members and students of the host college participated in the meet.
