GDC Doda celebrates Gandhi Jayanti under Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav

New Delhi: To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti and International Day of Non-violence, a Campus Cleanliness Drive was organized in the college under the aegis “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav”. The event was organized under the able guidance and patronage of (Prof.) Dr. Attar Singh, Principal of the college. The college staff along with the NCC (Naval & Army wing) cadets, NSS volunteers and students of ‘Green Rangers Ecoclub’ came up together and enthusiastically participated in the cleanliness drive. The cleanliness drive was focused on collection and segregation of ‘Single-use plastics’ from the open spaces in the college. The programme commenced with the introductory address by Prof. Babu Ram, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry. He addressed the students and deliberated upon the significance of this day. Dr. Sumit Kotwal, NSS Programme Officer briefed the students regarding this grave issue of single-use plastics and shared with them various success stories and alternatives to counter this problem. Prof. Zain-Ul-Abdeen Banday, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, shared his thoughts on Gandhian Philosophy.
A month long schedule has been devised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in the current month for the cleanliness mission going on in the country. Dr. Akhter Hussain, Prof. Rakesh Kumar, Prof. Akrity Parihar, Prof. Purnima Manhas and Prof. Preeti Devi, accompanied the cadets in this run. The students on this occasion also participated in the ‘plogging run’ organized by the district administration in the municipal limits of Doda city and also made awareness campaign regarding disuse of single use plastics. The college principal and faculty members congratulated the NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and other students for this initiative.
