GDC Doda celebrates National Voters’ Day under Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav

Doda: To celebrate the 12th edition of National Voters’ Day under Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, the NSS, NCC (Infantry & Navy) and IQAC units of Government Degree College, Doda organized a Pledge taking ceremony and Webinar based on the theme ‘Making elections inclusive, accessible and participative’. The event was organized under the able guidance and patronage of Dr. Attar Singh Kotwal, Principal of the college. About 50 students from different colleges and universities participated in this online event. The event was organized to make young stakeholders aware about their basic rights as enshrined in the constitution and also to enumerate the responsibilities they need to consider before and after casting their votes. In the first session of the webinar, the welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Zain Batt, CTO, NCC (Navy) and also, the National Voters’ Day oath was administered to the staff and students by him. Thereafter, in the second session of the webinar, the keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Puyesh Kant Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Sciences, GDC Akhnoor, Jammu. He enlightened the audience about universal adult franchise, the triangle of social, political and economic democracy and also, the guiding principles of running a democratic government. The report was compiled and presented by Dr. Sumit Kotwal, NSS Programme Officer of the college and the formal vote of thanks at the end of webinar was also delivered by him. Others faculty members who joined the event include Dr. Ajaz A. Wani, IQAC Coordinator of the college, Prof. K.K. Manhas, HoD Education and Dr. Akhter Hussain, HoD Urdu.
