GDC Kishtwar hosts Exhibition; Promoting sustainable development through recycled products
KISHTWAR : The Eco-club of Government Degree College organized a remarkable exhibition as part of the ongoing weeklong celebration of Gandhi Jayanti and showcased a wide range of products made from recycled materials. The event, led by Dr. Sehrish Gazal and held under the guidance of Principal Dr. Jyoti Parihar, aimed to instill the values of simplicity, sustainable living, and zero waste generation among the students and the community.
The exhibition showcased different aspects of Gandhi’s life and his philosophy, highlighting the significance and relevance of his teachings in today’s world. The event aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and commitment towards sustainable development among the students, while also promoting the idea of reducing waste and up-cycling discarded items into usable creations.
The exhibition attracted a large crowd of students, faculty members, and local residents, all eager to witness the innovative and eco-friendly products on display. The event provided a platform for students to exhibit their creativity and craftsmanship in transforming old and discarded materials into functional and aesthetically pleasing items.
Dr. Jyoti Parihar, the College Principal graced the occasion as the chief guest. Her presence accentuated the significance of sustainable practices and encouraged students to embrace their role as responsible citizens in safeguarding the environment.
Dr. Ashiq Hussain, Prof Mussarat Mattoo and Prof. Romana Akhtar as jury evaluated the exhibits based on their creativity, functionality, and adherence to sustainability principles.
The exhibition showcased a wide range of products, including furniture, cloth and jute bags, home décor items, fashion accessories, and artwork, all crafted from recycled materials such as plastic bottles, newspapers, and discarded fabrics. The creativity and ingenuity demonstrated by the students were truly commendable, as they transformed waste materials into unique and valuable creations.
Dr. Sehrish Gazal, convener of the Eco-club, expressed her delight at the overwhelming response to the exhibition. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering a culture of sustainability and equipping the youth with the necessary skills to become conscientious global citizens.
Dr. Tariq Tamkeen, ProProf. Sarita Parihar, Prof. Swami Raj, Prof. Sonika Sen, Dr. Madhu Bala, Prof Susheel and other faculty members also attended the exhibition.
The exhibition at Government Degree College Kishtwar successfully achieved its objective of inspiring students to embrace sustainable practices and contribute towards a greener future.
