GDC Nowshera hosts Workshop on “General Orientation and Career Counselling”

 

Rajouri: Counselling and Career Counselling Cell of Government Degree College Nowshera organized one day workshop on “General Orientation and Career Counseling’ for the students here, the other day.

A large number of students and the faculty members participated in the programme, which began with lighting of the lamp followed by Saraswati Vandhana.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Nowshera, Sukhdev Singh Samyal, was the chief guest, while Principal of the College, Dr. Surinder Kumar presided over the programme.

The chief guest appreciated the college committee for organizing the interactive session for the students. He also emphasized on the importance of online marketing and digital knowledge in the present world. He also advised the students to make best use of their precious time and prepare for their competitive examinations along with their studies.

Earlier, the College Principal formally welcomed the Chief Guest, Resource Persons and other Special Guests of the programme. He appraised the gathering about the various developmental projects which have been initiated like up-grading of sports ground, construction of canteen block, provision of drinking water, establishment of digital classrooms and browsing center. He also informed that soft skill development courses in collaboration with NIELIT Jammu and Central University- Jammu have been started under the aegis of Higher Education Department. He also spoke about the different development projects which have to be taken up with the Higher Authorities like construction of academic block, multipurpose hall, girls’ hostel and staff quarters. He also talked about the new Education Policy -2020 and asked the students to become entrepreneurs.

The Resource Persons, BDO Nowsheram Sahil Mahajan and BDO Seri, Anjali Gandotra, enlightened the students regarding various opportunities in academics as well as competitive fields after graduation. They provided information to the students about the various competitive exams like KAS, IAS, CDS, Banking, NET, JRF, GATT and others. They informed the students about the various PG courses they can pursue after graduation. They also interacted with the students and cleared their doubts.

Dr. Chander Parkash, Health Department Nowshera made the students aware about the menace of drug addiction and urged them to adopt a healthy lifestyle for better development of their personality. He also asked the students to make good use of Mobile and Internet.

The Yoga Trainer, Ravi Sharma, expressed his views on the significance of Yoga in day-to-day life. He explained about various types of Yoga like Shakti Yoga, Gyan Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Karam Yoga etc. and stress management.

The Special Guests BDC Chairman, Bodh Raj, Municipal Committee Chairman, Narinder Sharma, External IQAC Member, Ravi Kant and SDPO Nowshera, Zakir Hussain Mirza also inspired the students with their visionary insight and advised them to work hard and be honest to fulfill their dream.

Assistant Professor Physics, S Joginder Singh, also motivated the students to focus on their studies and make use of the internet in a positive manner. Assistant Prof. Punjabi, S. Gurjeet Singh, recited a poem in Punjabi on the role and importance of a teacher in the life of student.

On this occasion, Sonia Choudhary, B.Sc. Sem.-V was conferred with the student of the “Year Award”. The guests were conferred with a token of appreciation in the form of mementos. A Plantation drive was also carried out in the college campus by the guests, faculty members and students.
