GDC Paloura holds series of activities under Poshan Pakhwada

 

JAMMU : Government Degree College, Paloura organized a series of activities to celebrate Poshan Pakhwada under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The aim of the programme was identification and celebration of healthy children in the age group of 0-6 years and integration of modern and traditional practices for healthy India. On the inaugural day, an online quiz competition was organized on the topic “Awareness on anemia”. The first position was shared by 4 students namely, Shehzad Ali, Shewali Malhotra, Amandeep Kour and Dimple Sangral whereas; second and third positions were bagged by Ms. Ameesha kotwal and Ms. Ashmi Angral of the college respectively. On day 2, NSS volunteers measured the height and weight of 80 students in the age group of 0-6 years to mark Swastha Balak Balika spardha. On day three, Poster making competition was organized on the theme “Role of women on water conservation” in which Ms. Riya Kaw secured first position whereas, Kuldeep Singh secured second and Mansi Sharma secured third position. On day four, Essay writing competition was organized on the topic “AYUSH for Prevention and Management of Anemia” in which Mr. Shehzaad Ali, Kuldeep Singh and Sapna Sharma of the college secured first, second and third positions respectively.

The programme concluded with a door to door campaign and distribution of nutritious kits to the children by NSS volunteers. The NSS volunteers interacted with the parents regarding balanced diet and role of AYUSH in prevention of Anemia. They urged parents to include vitamins, minerals, cereals and pulses in diet of the children to maintain proper height and weight of the children according to their age.

Prof. Ramneek Kaur, Principal of the college lauded the enthusiastic participation of students in the campaign and impressed upon them to take constructive steps to eliminate problem of malnutrition and anemia in children by promoting healthy eating habits and healthy lifestyle. The whole programme was coordinated by Dr. Shivani Sharma, NSS Programme Officer of the college.
