GDC Ramban hosts seminar on ‘Biodiversity: Status, Threats and Conservation Strategies’
RAMBAN: Government Degree College, Ramban and Government Degree College, Ukhral, in collaboration with Indian Science Congress Association, Jammu Chapter organised a one day seminar on the topic “Biodiversity: Status, Threats and Conservation Strategies” here today.
The programme started with the candle lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandana followed by recitation of the National Anthem by the students under the guidance of Prof. Chanakya Sharma. The Principal of the College Dr. Ranvijay Singh presented the formal welcome address and expressed his gratitude towards the guests for making it convenient to join the program.
Prof. Bal Krishan, Head Department of Zoology gave a general introduction of the program and emphasised on the need of conservation of biodiversity in the scenario of indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources by mankind. “We must learn to live in harmony with nature for the good health of the environment and to achieve sustainable growth and development” he advised the students.
The inaugural session of the program was moderated by Assistant Professor Zoology Younis Ahmad Rather.
In the second segment of the program, several students gave their presentations. This segment was compared by HOD of Geography Ankur Dogra.
HOD Botany, Prof. Satish Kumar; HOD EVS Dr. Vikram Rathore and Assistant Professor Botany Dr. Vinod acted as jury.
The last segment of the program was moderated by Prof. Vijay Sharma HOD Urdu.
The invited guest speakers Dr. Muzaffer Ahmad Kichloo, Assistant Professor EVS from GDC Banihal and Dr. Akhtar Rasool Lecturer from GDC Ukhral shared their valuable thoughts with the audience. They delivered their talks on the topics, Birds Conservations and Biodiversity status respectively.
Former Head Department of Zoology University of Jammu, Prof. Bal Dev Sharma delivered a motivational talk on Biodiversity in general and inspired the students to take up entomology as a field of study at research level.
Member Executive Committee, ISCA Jammu chapter Prof. M.K. Jyoti delivered a thought provoking lecture which touched upon various subjects across the spectrum of disciplines. He also talked about organisational setup of (ISCA) Jammu Chapter and the opportunities which it offers to the budding scholars. His words of wisdom inspired the entire audience.
As per the jury, the first position was bagged by Rajni Chib, the second position went to Radhika Devi and third position was bagged by Hemani Sharma. The other student speakers were given consolation prizes
The students demonstrated an appreciable sense of discipline under the supervision and guidance of physical director Ramandeep Krialia and NSS program officer Prof. Vickey Rattan.
The technical support was taken care of by Prof. Kamaljeet Singh HOD Computer, Dr. Bharat Singh HOD Physics and Prof. Bansi Lal HOD Chemistry. All the staff members including teaching and non-teaching staff actively participated in the programme.
Prof. Ajaz Ahmed HOD Economics GDC Ramban presented the formal vote of thanks. The program culminated with a pledge taken by the audience “Save Environment and Save Life”.
