GDC Sunderbani hosts ‘book review’ competition to promote book reading among students
JAMMU : To attract students towards the books and inculcate reading habits in them, the library department of Government Degree College, Sunderbani today organised an online inter college “book review” competition of the book “A Train to Pakistan”.
The ‘book review’ competition was organised as part of a series of such competitions to be organised during the academic session 2021-22 as proposed by the college principal Dr. Vandana Gupta. The idea is to promote book reading amid Covid-19 which has significantly changed the education system across the globe. Besides, the distinctive rise of e-learning and multimedia platforms has led to increase in the screen time particularly of the young generation thereby, affecting their reading habits. Reading habit is the most fundamental skill that is necessary for success not only for academic purposes but for all walks of life.
Over thirty students from different colleges of Jammu Division participated in the competition.
Wasim Akram, a student of 5th semester GDC Sunderbani scored first position, while Obaid Rafiq of 1stsemester GDC Sidhra stood 2nd and Palak Goria of 5th semester GDC Sunderbani stood third.
The competition was organized by Rafiq Ahmad Rather, Librarian of the college. Prof. Sham Lal, Dr. Shezad Ahmad and Prof. Kuldeep were judges for the competition.
