GDC Vijaypur hosts workshop on World Oceans Day

Samba: Government Degree College Vijaypur today organized one day workshop on World Oceans Day, 2021 through online mode.

While speaking on the occasion, Principal of the college, Prof Dr Sangeeta Sudan said that we must take care of the oceans by being more responsible towards them while considering them as a gift from God. She said that the Covid pandemic has helped remind humanity of its root in the nature. She also called upon all to join hands in protecting the oceans.

Convenor EcoClub GDC Vijaypur, Prof Poonam Kundan, who also coordinated the event, shared a presentation on the theme “The Ocean: Life and Livelihoods”. She said, “Oceans are not just water bodies, they are our source of life and it is time we protect and save them”.

Prof Poonam termed oceans as the lungs of our planet and a major source of food and medicine and a critical part of the biosphere. “Oceans are the largest Carbon sink and play a vital role in regulating the global climate. Due to various anthropogenic activities, oceans are becoming more acidic, putting marine biodiversity, essential food chains and marine ecosystems in threat”, she informed. She also appealed the students to generate awareness around the subject through social platforms.

As part of the event, students enthusiastically participated and circulated various slogans, posters and messages pertaining to saving oceans. They also shared their views as to how human activities like dumping plastic, garbage, oil leaks etc are responsible in polluting the oceans.
