General Medicine Department of GMC Rajouri hosts awareness event to mark World Heart Day

 

RAJOURI : To commemorate “World Heart Day” the Department of General Medicine, Government Medical College and Associated Hospital organized an awareness session for the common populace on the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and precautions to be taken to live a healthy life.

The day started with the health pledge by students of GMC Rajouri, followed by a discussion with Dr Jameel ul Hussain, Head of Department Medicine.

Dr Brij Mohan, Principal GMC was the Chief Guest, while Dr Vijay Gupta HOD ENT, Dr. Shilander Sharma; HOD Orthopedic, Dr Mehmood Hussain Bajar; Medical Superintendent, Mohinder Paul, Administrative Officer, besides senior faculty members and prominent citizens of Rajouri were also present.

A theme based play on World Heart Day was staged by MBBS and B.Sc Paramedical students of GMC Rajouri, which was followed by a Poster Presentation on “World Heart Day” and speeches along with documentaries related to the theme and the day.

Dr Jameel Ul Hussain shared thoughts on preventive and intervention aspects about coronary artery diseases. He also listed the activities held in the past to raise the awareness among the general public towards the alarming incidence of Cardiovascular diseases. This year’s campaign aims to encourage individuals to commit to healthier habits by making heart-healthy choices and in adopting initiatives to promote heart health – from eating better to getting more active or going for regular check-ups, said Dr Jameel.

In his address, Dr Brij Mohan advised the participants to avoid known risk factors such as an unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, harmful use of alcohol and tobacco to maintain a healthy heart. The incidence of heart disease has acquired epidemic dimensions, with an alarming number of people succumbing to the disease. Ironically, youth falling victims to this disease at a ripe age is a matter of grave concern, he added.
