George Mason University: Edwards Named Interim Dean of College of Science
“Dr. Edwards brings a wealth of experience to this role, having served with distinction in a variety of leadership positions across the university over the past 12 years,” said Walsh. “His extensive experience and dedication to research excellence, leadership, and student success make him exceptionally suited for this role.”
Most recently Edwards has served as the senior associate dean for faculty and academic affairs in the College of Science, where he has played a critical role in shaping academic policies and enhancing faculty development. Previously he served as executive director of the Smithsonian-Mason School of Conservation (SMSC) for nearly eight years, where he helped strengthen the bridge between education and research, fostering numerous collaborative projects.
Edwards will be filling the role left by Dean Fernando Miralles-Wilhelm, who will become the president of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science and vice chancellor for sustainability of the University System of Maryland on July 1.
“As we welcome Dr. Edwards, I would also like to express our profound gratitude to Dr. Miralles-Wilhelm for his exceptional leadership as dean since 2020,” said Walsh. “Under his guidance, the College of Science has seen significant growth in research, support to academic programs, student enrollment, and fundraising.”
