Georgia Launches New Information Portal to Support and Improve its Vocational Education and Training Sector
Tbilisi: A newly revamped website, VET.ge, will serve as a hub and one-stop shop for information on new developments, data and statistics, best practices, government policies, and latest trends in Georgia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector. The online launch of the new portal was hosted today by the World Bank in partnership with Georgia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport.
VET.ge, with its user-friendly design and easy access to the latest VET information, electronic databases and educational materials, will help address the needs of several key stakeholders, not least of all VET students, for whom improved access to data means better informed career choices.
Equally important, the website will provide reliable and comprehensive data to decision makers in the VET sector, enabling interested parties to undertake new opportunities to advance their skills at vocational education institutions, establish shared value partnerships, and become advocates of Georgia’s VET sector.
“We are delighted to present a completely renewed web portal which will increase interest in and access to vocational education in Georgia. And we believe that this new website, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, will play a crucial role in information dissemination and knowledge sharing among students, teachers and institutions,” said Sebastian Molineus, World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus. “We also strongly encourage public and private sector partners to use this portal for their future partnerships in the field.”
The website was created under the auspices of the Strengthening Teacher Quality in Vocational Education project, financially supported by the UK International Development Department through the British Embassy Good Governance Fund, and implemented by the World Bank in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia. This project aims to improve industry-led skills development for VET students, by enhancing teacher quality and promoting evidenced-based decision making and accountability mechanisms.
“With continued support provided by our strategic development partners, VET teachers, students and all interested partners will have an opportunity to receive important information and data about Georgia’s VET system,” said Tamar Kitiashvili, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia. “Creating such an enabling environment contributes to transparency, equal opportunities, and better access to quality education. We believe this platform will increase the attractiveness of VET education, which is one of the main pillars for creating decent jobs.”
The Strengthening Teacher Quality in Vocational Education and Training project is being implemented in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia, and supports the Government’s sustainable development agenda, aimed at strengthening human capital for people-oriented economic growth.
