GIIS Noida celebrates and promotes mathematics education among students with All India Ramanujan Maths Club

Noida : Representatives of the famed Ganit Yatra visited the Noida campus of Global Indian International School, to encourage students to increase interest in Mathematics by alleviating their fear of numbers, calculations, theorems and other problems related to the subject.

The Ganit Yatra is organised by All India Ramanujan Maths Club (AIRMC) which is celebrating 75 years of Indian Independence by visiting 75 schools across the country. GIIS Noida is one of the schools which was chosen by the Yatra, and its principal Mr Ganesh Sharma is the Yatra Convenor for Uttar Pradesh.

Mathematics as a subject is an essential part of the school curriculum, starting from pre-school. Other than the methodological applications the subject helps in developing a child’s personality through critical thinking, problem-solving ability, rational thinking, and reasoning.

The Ganit Yatra is one of its kind initiatives where Mathematicians from the club visit schools to showcase fun while learning Maths and Science to students of Grade 1 to 12. The club visits schools across India to conduct workshops where teachers are training to make this essential subject a fun and interesting topic to learn.

Global Indian International School is an integral part of the journey for its adherence to the approach of metacognitive skills development in children which aligns with the club’s mission to improve mathematical thinking and bring students’ hidden talent to light. The association and relationship of GIIS with AIRMC have been long-standing through various educational programs and competitions, and the school takes part in active celebrations. Representatives from AIRMC showcased the fun mathematical tricks and magical mathematical concepts through the resource kits they brought along and highlighted important aspects of mathematics which has certainly reduced Maths Phobia among budding mathematicians. The event has provided a golden opportunity to identify Ramanujan Talent at every nook and corner of India.

Mehul Laxmidas Harsora, International Maths-Science Expert along with Dr Chandra Mauli Joshi, Chairman, AIRMC, Dr Manoj K Patariya, Advisor NCSTC (Department Of Science And Technology) and Dr Nakul Parashar, Director, Vigyan Prasar,( VIPNET), Govt. of India were invited by Yatra Convenor Mr Ganesh Sharma, Principal, GIIS Noida for the occasion.

Mathematics is an important subject for a student and provides foundational knowledge for other subjects as well. We plan to provide opportunities for learners to develop their curiosity and creativity outside the classroom. Today’s initiative was one such example where the students learnt Mathematics tricks and Magical Maths concepts from renowned personalities in the field of Mathematics and Science.  We have a longstanding relationship with AIRMC, where our students have participated in the club’s quiz and have celebrated the anniversary of great Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan.” said Mr Rajiv Bansal, Director-Operations, Global Indian International School (GIIS), India.

As a part of the yatra and visit to GIIS Noida, the students of grades 1 to 12 worked on various concepts like simple linear equations, constructing quadrilaterals, Algebraic expressions and identities, percentage etc in Mathematics and presented interesting exhibits and prototypes. Representatives from AIRMC showcased the fun mathematical tricks and magical mathematical concepts through the resource kits they brought along and highlighted important aspects of mathematics which has certainly reduced Maths Phobia among budding mathematicians. The event has provided a golden opportunity to identify Ramanujan Talent at every nook and corner of India. The exhibition witnessed attendance of about hundred and fifty students, two hundred parents and all teachers and staff of GIIS Noida. Principal from Jagran Public School was also invited and present at the exhibition.
