Global Teacher Prize winner Ranjitsinh Disale conducts MasterClass on Mental Maths for 1.2 million+ LEAD students
Mumbai: In its efforts to help students overcome the fear of Mathematics, School EdTech major LEAD conducted a MasterClass with Global Teacher Prize 2020 winner Ranjitsinh Disale for over 1.2 mn plus students across its 3000+ partner schools.
Through its international standard curriculum, LEAD simplifies Math concepts for students to understand and apply the learnings in real-life situations. LEAD believes in focusing on the ‘meaning’ behind these concepts and applying it in everything they do, be it on a holiday, visiting a grocery store or cooking in the kitchen to manage time and making financial decisions.
Students were in awe when they learnt about Maths applications from Disale, the winner of the $1-million Global Teacher Prize, the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for teaching. During the session, students also participated in small exercises to improve their mental math as well as engaged in a quiz to apply their learnings from the MasterClass. Disale also shared his journey as a teacher, explained why he took it up as an alternative profession to a career in IT, and spoke of his initiative to educate girls and prevent them from dropping out of school.
LEAD Co-founder and CEO Sumeet Mehta said, “Mr. Disale has worked towards improving the learning outcomes of students and has been a vocal advocate of using technology to bridge learning gaps in education. We are happy to have conducted this session for our students as both Mr. Disale and LEAD share the same vision. The session ensured that students from all parts of the country got an opportunity to see how Math stimulates brains, improves observation skills & can help them develop critical thinking skills right from an early age.”
Ranjitsinh Disale said, “The aim of learning is to be able to apply knowledge to solve new problems. It is important to improve the learning outcomes of students, especially in small towns to close the gaps in education. I am thrilled to see LEAD’s commitment towards delivering international standard curriculum to children thereby democratizing education for all.”
Mr. Debapriyay Mukhopadhyay, founder of the blog ‘Ganit Charcha’, will conduct three more Mental Math sessions for LEAD students. Through Ganit Charcha, Mr. Mukhopadhyay and his team focus on deeper conceptual understanding to ensure the growth of the mathematical mind and engage them in a way that students learn to enjoy the skills.
LEAD’s MasterClass series is India’s first initiative to provide holistic learning to school children and allows them to learn from well-known experts in various fields, which was never available to children from small towns and cities. The first MasterClass on creative writing was held with eminent author Chetan Bhagat, the second with Tennis ace Sania Mirza, where she engaged with students on fitness and yoga, the third was with legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar on public speaking & the fourth was with Capt. Raghu Raman on Personality Development.
