GMRIT to host SIH 2022 Software Edition Grand Finale from 25th-26th August
Rajam : GMR Institute of Technology (GMRIT), an engineering and technological education wing established under GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF), the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of GMR Group announces its association with the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022. As part of this collaboration, GMRIT will be one of the nodal centres to facilitate the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022 Software Edition Grand Finale from 25th– 26th August 2022 at Rajam, Vizianagaram District, Andhra Pradesh.
Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell to provide students with a platform to solve the pressing problems of the government, ministries, departments, industries, and other organizations. Since its inauguration in 2017, the event has been organized in two formats i.e. SIH Software and SIH Hardware Editions for higher education students.
As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, SIH 2022 will be hosted across 75 premier higher educational institutes/ incubators in India shortlisted from a list of 400 national institutes. This year, the SIH will be centrally inaugurated by the Ministry of Education at 9:00 AM on 25th August 2022. While the grand finale of SIH Software 2022 will be organized from 25th– 26th August 2022, the grand finale of SIH Hardware 2022 will be organized from 26th– 29th August 2022.
As a nodal centre for the SIH 2022 Software edition, GMRIT will host the participants and provide them with the ideal environment to work on 6 problem statements provided by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). These problem statements are shortlisted from a total of 476 problem statements received from 62 organizations/ ministries. A total of 31 teams will be hosted at GMRIT having 223 participants who will be coding 36 hours non-stop to produce the working solution for the assigned problem statement.
Speaking on GMRIT’s collaboration with the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and AICTE to host the SIH 2022, Mr Ashwani Lohani, CEO-GMRVF said, “It is a great honour for GMR Institute of Technology to feature in the 75 premier institutes that will be hosting Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022. This is a noble initiative of the Government of India to provide young minds with a platform to work on crucial industry pain points with the latest technologies in an adequately timed and competitive format.”
Each problem statement has a winning amount of Rs.1 lakh. Under the student innovation category three prizes of Rs.1 lakh, Rs.75000, and Rs.50000 will be provided to the winning teams.
The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, All India Council for Technical Education, Persistent Systems, and i4c. Doordarshan and All India Radio are the media partners of the Smart India Hackathon 2022. Shell and AWS are the sponsoring partners of the Smart India Hackathon 2022.
Further congratulating the 8 teams from GMRIT that will be participating in SIH 2022 grand finale across various locations in India, Mr. Lohani said, “We are extremely delighted to have our students compete and reach the grand finale of SIH, one of the world’s highly acclaimed open innovation model.
