Goethe University: The program of the Museum Giersch of the Goethe University for the Museum Embankment Festival 2022
After a two-year break from the Museumsuferfest, the Museum Giersch of the Goethe University invites you again from August 26th to 28th to visit exhibitions, guided tours, a children’s program and the 15th antiquarian mile in front of the house.
Fully air-conditioned art enjoyment awaits you in the museum: For the first time, visitors can experience the Deutsche Bundesbank’s important art collection of modern and contemporary art in this breadth. The selection of around 90 works of art from the collection of the German Central Bank represents a cross-section of German art history of the 20th and early 21st centuries – starting with prominent positions in German art after 1945 such as Georg Baselitz, Anselm Kiefer, Wolfgang Mattheuer and Ernst Wilhelm Nay, to contemporary artists such as Anne Imhof, Jorinde Voigt or Jonas Weichsel. A thematic structure in the rooms of the MGGU creates unusual dialogues and areas of tension.
The overview tours on Saturday promise interesting insights. Director and curator Birgit Sander will personally guide you through the show on Sunday.
Children aged 4 to 12 are invited to be creative based on art from the exhibition. In a tent in front of the MGGU, the motto is “Absolute colour”: with fabric paint and markers, the youngsters can try out the experimental technique of thread painting on fabric bags and scarves and take their own summer accessory home with them.
The 15th antiquarian mile in front of the museum is a place for discovery and browsing. Several antiquarian bookshops and traveling booksellers from all over Germany offer a wide range of paperbacks to handprints and sound carriers. The mile is an absolute highlight at the Museumuferfest in book-loving Frankfurt and is generously supported by the GIERSCH FOUNDATION!
