Göttingen University Secures Place Among Germany’s Top Ten Institutions

Good results for the University of Göttingen. In the current university ranking of the UK’s Times Higher Education (THE), Göttingen was able to maintain its position of 10th place in Germany. In the world rankings, it came 121st this year. The University scored very well in the area of research quality, achieving a score of 88.2 out of a possible 100 points.

The overall result for the individual universities is made up of scores collected in 18 different categories. These can be roughly categorised into the areas of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. The THE obtains the raw data from three sources: direct data delivery by the universities, a global reputation survey conducted among scientists and academics, and its own evaluations from bibliometric databases. In total, more than 2,000 universities from around the world were evaluated.

“For a university like ours that positions itself internationally, doing well in such rankings is very important to us, as is maintaining our place among the top ten German universities,’ says University President Professor Metin Tolan. “Researchers put value in rankings, as do prospective students. It cannot be taken for granted the University of Göttingen would always to be so successful in this ranking: we will continue to work hard together to ensure that our collective achievements in teaching and research are reflected in the relevant rankings in the future as well.’
