Government Degree College Sidhra celebrated “Van Mahotsav” under the banner of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’

New Delhi:  Van Mahotsav or Forest Festival is an annual tree-planting festival in which thousands of trees are planted all over the country. Van Mahotsav week is celebrated from 1st July to 7th  July to spread awareness of forest conservation and to save the environment. Government Degree College Sidhra celebrated “Van Mahotsav” under the banner of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. ECO CLUB along with NSS Unit of the college organised Plantation Drive            “Let’s Plant Where We Are” encouraging the students to contribute in the drive from their home as due to pandemic the educational institutions are observing online classes.

Principal of the college, Dr. Monika along with Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, NSS Program Officer; Dr. Anshu Gupta, Convener ECO Club of the college and staff members planted saplings in the college premises following COVID SOPs.

Emphasizing the need to protect and conserve the environment, she said that it gives immense pleasure to see the high enthusiasm exhibited by the students who have come forth for the drive, which is encouraging, to mitigate the effect of climate change and help conserve the environment. She emphasized that it’s also important to nurture the saplings after planting to survive all odds and grow to full potential. She further said that let us all pledge not only to plant trees but also nurture them.

The Plantation drive was organized by Dr. Anshu Gupta, Convener ECO Club and Dr. Mehmood Ahmed, NSS Programme Officer of the College. The program was coordinated by Prof. Deepa Kak, Prof. Meesha Bhagat and Dr. Satbir Kour members, organizing committee for the Plantation
