Government Medical College in Jammu hosts program to mark 1 year of Covid-19 RT-PCR testing
Jammu: The Department of Microbiology today observed the first anniversary of the first Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test for Covid-19 which was started by the Government Medical College in Jammu.
On this occasion, the Department of Microbiology, GMC Jammu organized an event in which Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal GMC and Associated Hospitals was the Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sudhan congratulated doctors, technicians and other staff members for working day and night in Covid-19 times. “We are happy in serving patients and doing good work. The staff worked very hard in adverse working conditions” she added. She said that Microbiology has been at the cutting edge of the Covid mitigation plans and execution of ‘test, track and isolate’ strategy.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shallu Mengi, Demonstrator, said that perseverance and dedication helped achieve this target in the tough times of Covid-19 .
Dr. Payal Dutta, Lecturer, Microbiology spoke about the training imparted on Molecular Diagnostics under the supervision of Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma.
Chief Lab Technician, Renu Kumari, talked about the journey of RT-PCR testing for Covid- 19 from the beginning to the present day.
It is pertinent to mention here that GMC Jammu was the first hospital in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir that started RT-PCR testing for Covid-19.
It was informed that GMC Jammu started the journey from conducting five tests per day to 3600 tests per day and has conducted more than three lakh RT-PCR Test for Covid-19 so far.
During the event, Dr.Shallu Mengi, Dr. Payal Dutta, Dr. Perika, Dr. Priyanka, Dr. Rajni, Dr. Nazia, Dr. Ruvaida, Dr. Mehreen, Dr. Konika, Dr. Saba, Dr. Suharshi, Amarjeet Singh, Rajesh Raina, Surjeet Kumar, Bansi Lal, Aman Sawhney, Ankush, Vipin, Geeta, Arshad Bano, Rita, Vandana etc were felicitated.
Nagendra Singh Jamwal, Administrator GMC & AH and Dr. Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent, GMC Jammu, Dr. Rehana Khurshid, Dy. MS GMC Jammu and Dr. Bharat Bhushan Dy. MS GMC Jammu were also present during the program. Dr. Konika Razdan conducted the whole event.
