GOVERNMENT OF INDIA NAMES BHU HUMAN GENETICIST AS PCPNDT ACT MEMBER

VARANASI : Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has named renowned human geneticist and Coordinator, Centre For Genetic Disorders, BHU, Prof. Parimal Das as member of PCPNDT Act. The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994 (PCPNDT Act) aims to prevent the misuse of pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic techniques for sex determination leading to female foeticide and to regulate such techniques for the prevention of genetic disorders. Prof. Das is an eminent expert in the field of Medical genetics and has contributed significantly to the area. His appointment to the PCPNDT Act is expected to enhance its effectiveness in achieving its objectives. Commenting on his appointment, Professor Das said, “I am honoured to have been elected as a member of the PCPNDT Act. The Act plays a critical role in preventing gender-based violence and ensuring reproductive health and genetic counselling services for all. I look forward to working with the other members of the Act towards achieving its objectives.”

Professor Das’ nomination to the PCPNDT Act is a significant recognition of his expertise and experience in the field of Human Molecular Genetics. His appointment is expected to contribute to the effective implementation of the Act and strengthen the government’s efforts towards ensuring reproductive health and gender equality.
