Governor honours doctors on National Doctor’s Day
Shimla: On the occasion of National Doctor’s Day, today, Governor Bandaru Dattatraya expressed his gratitude towards the doctors for their invaluable contribution in saving the lives during the pandemic by putting their own life at risk.
While honouring the doctors at the Raj Bhavan on the occasion of National Doctor’s Day, the Governor said this it was really a noble profession and he appreciated their courage. He said that every year National Doctor’s Day was celebrated on July 1st to mark the importance of doctors in our lives and the role they play in the welfare of humankind. This year, the significance of this Day increases as the day was celebrated when every doctor was giving their 100 percent to fight coronavirus pandemic and their invaluable contribution during these times to make people recover from this dreadful infection, he said. He added that the day was like a tribute to all medical and healthcare professionals who have attended the patients and did their bit for the society irrespective of all odds. He said that the hard work and dedication of the doctors since the start of the pandemic has been praiseworthy.
Shri Dattatraya said that National Doctor’s Day was celebrated to honour the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. Dr Roy was honoured with the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna on February 4, 1961. He said that, in 1991, India started celebrating the National Doctor’s Day in honour of Dr. Roy as a great physician. “I pay my respect to Dr. Roy on this day said the Governor.”
He said that the Government was providing a medical insurance cover of Rs. 50 lakh for frontline warriors dealing with coronavirus pandemic working in government hospitals, labs, etc.
